EAI architecture renovation for BSS

Customer: Western European Mobile Operator

.The challenge

Our customer, a mobile operator, faced several challenges in their Application & Systems Integration architecture in the BSS area (CRM/Billing). The architecture was fragmented, with point-to-point connections, without a common enterprise-data model that made difficult to integrate new applications or release new functionalities in existing applications, which brought as a consequence high development costs and low response time to implement new business requirements.

.The solution

To remove these problems, the customer decided to launch an initiative to re-design the architecture of their applications, data and systems integration starting in the CRM Systems Development department. The architecture was redesigned following a SOA approach and relying on Enterprise Message Bus and a Process Orchestration Engine based on TIBCO technologies.

HERMES SoftLab participated in the project by providing consulting services in the whole architecture re-design, modeling Business Processes and Application Integration using TIBCO Business Works as well as developing and implementing a number of different application adapters that provide the translation between vendor specific and domain specific schemas.

.Key benefits

The customer achieved several benefits with the initiative, with the new architecture every application has one single integration point, the dependency on application specific data formats was removed and the systems have overall become more stable. It is also now possible to replace individual applications without collapsing the whole system. In addition to shorter execution time, the customer has been able to optimize the cost of development for new functionalities and integration of new applications.
