Implementation of IT Infrastructure Management solution

Customer: Macedonian mobile operator

.The challenge

The operator was looking to be able to manage the complete Infrastructure (heterogeneous and distributed environment) from a single point and location, easier to operate and be able to collect system performance data, identify proactively potential problems and fix them before they occur. They wanted to have a tool with which they would be able to find out the root cause for network outages. In addition, they wanted to be able to have a tool which would produce factual data and generate reports for management to justify investment in IT based on measurable data.

They were also looking to start implementing a business approach to deliver IT services and mission critical applications. For example, for billing systems (both pre-paid and post-paid), they wanted to be able to quickly identify root of a failure on any level (application, database, infrastructure).

.The solution

HP, HERMES SoftLab and Intellicom joined forces to deliver the solution based on HP OpenView. HERMES SoftLab designed and implemented the solution, enabling our customer to monitor and proactively manage network, systems and applications; the whole project was delivered in 5 weeks engagement which were delivered in three phases and the project was finished in less than 3 months.

As part of the solution, HERMES SoftLab implemented (based on custom-made templates) a service tree that enables them to monitor the operation of billing systems as a service, so they are able to proactively identify any impact on availability or performance from the application layer down to the infrastructure.

Our customer is now able to centrally monitor and manage the complete IT Infrastructure using a single tool for that, they can also solve problems faster because they are able to quickly identify the root cause, furthermore they are able to perform better and proactive planning of IT investments, based on the data which is provided by OpenView products.
