The challenge

In a period of rapid subscriber growth our customer’s existing backup solution and the underlying backup strategy proved to not deliver the expected results. Faced with a number of operational issues, the company decided to install a backup solution from a different vendor for its Windows environment – this quickly resulted in an increased TCO of the backup system.

The solution

HERMES SoftLab was appointed to urgently address both short- and long-term issues to align the backup strategy to the business needs.

Through a Network & Storage assessment, a Data assessment, and a detailed benchmarking, we succeeded, within a few days, to:

• Re-design the backup environment to cope with the subscriber growth rate: reconfiguration and tuning for optimal performance and scalability, optimization of the network traffic.

• Decrease the TCO. The solution was designed for optimal current investment protection: the amount of backup data was minimized; based on the implemented changes, the client could consolidate the backup environment onto one vendor/tool only

• Help introduce and implement a proper backup policy delivering testing of restores, establishment of a backup team, workshops for administrators.
